New York by her religious parents, Theodosia and William Tyson, who were immigrants from the Carribean Island called

Nevis. Cicely was discovered by a Ebony Fashion Magazine Editor at 18 years old. Soon, she became one of the

country's Top Black Models. She was featured on the cover of several top selling black magazines like Ebony and Jet,

as well as Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. After modeling for quite sometime she became interested in acting. In 1957, she

began acting in Off Broadway Productions. Her first movie role was a small part in Odds Against Tomorrow in 1959.
